There are many benefits to learning a musical instrument. Obviously it can bring a great sense of satisfaction and achievement. However, it can also help to improve concentration and co-ordination, boost self-confidence, provide relaxation and improve your quality of life.
Jonathan currently teaches around 40 piano students per week ranging from complete beginner to advanced standard and from age six to adult. Jonathan's aims are for all his students to enjoy learning the piano and to be able to reach the best standard they can achieve.
The Studio
Jonathan's
teaching studio is equipped with a Yamaha U3 upright piano, Kawai MP5
stage piano and Viscount digital organ. He has facilities to record
students and also to write out and print music.
Qualifications
If pupils wish to work toward qualifications then Jonathan is happy to enter them for the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music classical or jazz piano or music theory exams. These exams range from grade 1 to grade 8 in classical piano and grades 1 to 5 in jazz piano. Pupils wishing to proceed beyond grade 5 need to take a grade 5 theory or jazz exam. However, grades 6 to 8 do also give the student UCAS points which may help with university applications.
Music Theory
A good knowledge of music theory is essential for anyone wishing to learn an instrument to a fairly advanced standard. Also, many people choose to study music theory even if they are not learning an instrument. Jonathan is happy to teach music theory and can enter pupils in for grades 1 to 5 music theory exams.
