Biography

MenheniotJonathan’s interest in music began at the age of just four when he started piano lessons with his mother. He continued to study under her until he passed his grade 8 exam at the age of fifteen.  In December 2004, Jonathan gained the FRSM diploma in piano performing and in July 2005 he also passed the ALCM diploma in jazz piano.  More recently, in October 2011 he gained a DipMusTh(ICMA) diploma in music theory with distinction.  He now has a busy career as a freelance soloist and a teacher of piano and organ. 




As a pianist, Jonathan has performed at venues throughout the UK including  York Minster, Norwich Cathedral, Bradford Cathedral and the Hall for Cornwall.  His  concerts have included a wide range of music from his own arrangements of jazz standards by Gershwin, Scott Joplin and others to major classical works such as Liszt's         B minor Sonata and Mozart's Piano Concerto in A K488 and his improvisations.




Organ_portrait_1 Jonathan's interest in the organ began at the age of twelve.  He initially taught himself, but went on to have lessons with Gillian Adams.  In July 2007 he gained the LTCL recital diploma with distinction.  Jonathan has performed with international concert organist Carlo Curley in a concert for two organs and has also been the organist at Truro Cathedral for the BBC Radio Cornwall Christmas Carol Concert.  His programmes have included Mendelssohn’s First Organ Sonata, which he has played in a masterclass with Dr Simon Lindley, and a solo organ accompaniment of Handel’s Messiah.  




Jonathan is in great demand as a accompanist.    He regularly plays with violinist Jake Loewendahl, forming a “Strings and Ivories” duo and together they have performed works by Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert and more at venues throughout Devon and Cornwall.  He has also performed with soprano Suzanne Manuell and the well-known local East Cornwall Bach Choir. Jonathan is also available to accompany for exams and festivals and is the official accompanist for Saltash Music Festival.



In April 2010 Jonathan was appointed as the Musical Director for Keltique.  Keltique are an award winning ladies choir who sing a wide repertoire including popular, musicals and jazz.  Jonathan was also appointed as Musical Director for  Rame Peninsula Male Voice Choir in February 2011 and in May 2011 he directed the choir during a tour in Germany.
